The Union Territory of Goa is located on the western coastline of the Indian Peninsula between the latitudes 15°48'00" North to 14°53'54" North and longitudes 74° 20'13" East to 73° 40'33" East. It lies between the states of Maharashtra and Karnataka. Waves of the Arabian Sea lap its shores, and its capital, the small and quaint town of Panaji is a sort of a travel and transportation hub and connecting location for Goa. Panaji is located 592 km from the metropolitan city of Bangalore and 593 km from the corporate and commercial hub Mumbai. Goa is divided into two the North and South districts.
Being a coastal state, Goa has a maritime climate with moderate temperatures throughout the year. In fact, there is very little variation in temperatures in different seasons. The months of April and May are known for their soaring temperatures, and it is advisable not to visit Goa during this time of the year. The temperatures range from 27 C to 34 C. Heat strokes and heat fever are common ailments and the Goans keep themselves going in the summer by tanking up and drinking gallons of water, fresh fruit juice and chilled feni. The afternoon siestas are extended vacations from the brightly shining sun and all houses draw their window shades down to maintain the cool interiors of the house. The winter months are January and February. It is the coldest in Goa at this time of the year with temperatures ranging from 21 C to 31 C.
A pleasant and tropical climate is present in Goa for the rest of the year. The Southwest Monsoon brings rain between June and September. With an annual rainfall of around 2,800 - 3,500 mm between the months of June and September. July receives maximum rainfall while February receives the least. Temperatures range from 20°C to 34°C for the rest of the year.
